Amien's impressive cathedral offers the most incredible backdrop for the scenic markets, that are beautifully lit by a glittering array of Christmas lights.
The markets 130-or-so charming chalet-style stalls give you the perfect opportunity to stock up on unique Christmas presents and festive decorations, as well as local crafts and regional food, whether to take home with you or to eat while you browse think the likes of roasted chestnuts still warm and fragrant in their paper cones and waffles with chocolate sauce. And as well as sweet treats, youll get the chance to savour dishes by French chefs.
A visit to a Paris Christmas Market is the fastest way to get into the holiday spirit when visiting the City of Light during the shortest days of the year. With sparkling lights, Christmas trees full of bright decorations, and even occasional visits from Saint Nicholas - or Père Noël, as Parisian children call him - these festive street markets filled with Swiss-style wooden chalets transport a tradition begun in the Middle Ages in Alsace and Germany to the French capital.

Day 1
We make our way south to join our crossing to France, arriving in our centrally situated hotel mid-afternoon. The Mercure Amiens Cathedral, is located in the heart of Amiens, just 50 m from the cathedral, which is a Unesco World Heritage Site. The historic Saint Leu district, the floating gardens and Jules Verne's house are all just a stone's throw from the hotel. Time to unpack and settle in before enjoying dinner in the hotel Restaurant this evening.
DDay 2
The capital of Picardy, Amiens, is well known for its Gothic cathedral but also for one of the largest and greatest Christmas Markets in Northern France. The quaint streets in the town centre display over 120 chalets and stalls transforming the area into a beautiful Christmas Alpine festive scene.
The market is the best place to stock up on your Christmas drinks, look out for Marne Valley Champagne and homemade ciders. Your choice of gift can vary from Picardy's Le Creuset kitchenware, fine crystal and hand-made glass and Angora sweaters straight from the farm.
Entertainment is provided in the form of carol singing. an ice-skating rink, merry-go-rounds and plenty of vin chaud - the perfect warm drink in winter. Wander through the pedestrianised streets with ease and be enthralled with Christmas trees, decorations and the festive atmosphere.
Day 3
Today we visit the French Capital. There is something magical about walking down one of the most famous avenues in the world on a crisp December day. At this time of the year the avenue gets flooded with lights all the way from the Place de l'Etoile and the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde.
The city is decked out in lights as the festive season approaches. Streets sparkle, major department stores come alive and the magic of Christmas weaves its spell! Enjoy a tour of the City and time to immerse yourself in the spirit of Christmas!
Day 4
We sadly bid farewell, making our way to Le Touquet to continue in the festive atmosphere, before heading to Calais and our afternoon crossing home.
