Day 1
We travel to Heysham to board the 2.15pm Isle of Man Ferry to Douglas. We check into The Mannin Hotel just a 2 minute walk from the beach and a short distance to the Cafes, Bars and Shops.
DDay 2
Our day begins with a journey aboard the Isle of Man Steam Railway, a perfectly maintained, original Victorian train system and the longest narrow gauge steam line in Britain. We board the train in Douglas and travel through the countryside to the resort of Port Erin before continuing our journey by coach to The Sound. Here we find a protected nature reserve with seabird and seal colonies and an excellent café with fabulous views across to the Calf of Man. After we head to Castletown with its small winding street, picturesque fishing cottages and Viking Castle. Entry is free to NT
and English Heritage Members.
Day 3
This morning, enjoy free time in the centre of Douglas. Visit the Manx Museum (Free of charge) to learn about the island's fascinating 10,000 year old history. In addition explore the island's capital aboard a traditional horse-drawn tram ride along the promenade. In the afternoon, we head to the West coast resort of Peel, with its flat sandy beach, Marina and Castle (reputedly haunted by Moddey Dhoo, the phantom hound!). We return to Douglas through the town of St Johns home to Tynwald Hill, the ceremonial landmark of the Manx Parliament that has remained independent for over 1200 years.
B, DDay 4
This morning we board the Manx Electric Railway in Douglas and travel to Laxey home to probably the most famous landmark on the island, the great Laxey Wheel. Our journey continues from Laxey up to Snaefell Mountain to enjoy spectacular views. We enjoy time for lunch at the Worlds largest working waterwheel followed by a visit to the Isle of Man TT Motor Museum. Our journey back to Douglas follows a section of the famous TT Motorcycle Racecourse.
